Help and frequently asked questions
This is the very help the game carries under “How to fish”, word for word: it is generated from the game code, so the numbers you see are the ones in force today. Léela en español
How to fish
Tap when the bar crosses the green zone: that cast covers all of the spot and gets the most bites.
The strike can come at any point. A stray tap does not interrupt it; holding half a second reels in at once.
When FISH ON! flashes, tap right away. Hesitate and it spits the lure.
Hold to reel in, let go when it runs. When the edge turns red, you are about to snap the line.
Your catch counts the moment the fish is up. "Release and go on" is the house rule: here we fish to conserve.
A session is 15 casts, not a clock: however long the fight takes, hooking a big fish never costs you the session.
Advanced rules
How a fish is lost
- It cuts you in the structure. The most common one with big fish: fighting inside the rocks or the snags, every run rubs the line. Bring it out of there when you can and do not let it run back in.
- You snap the line. Holding through a surge is what breaks it. You get three warnings first: the bent rod, the tension bar turning red and — when it is close — the edges of the screen glowing while the phone ticks faster and faster. On any of the three, let go.
- The hook opens up. Every jump and every minute of the fight widens it. Dragging out the fight with a big fish has a price.
- It shakes free on a slack line. Giving too much line also loses fish: the fight is about keeping the tension alive.
Sizes
Every fish comes with a size within its species range: small, medium, big, very big and record. Medium ones are frequent; a very big one is one in forty and a record one in six hundred catches, so a fish at the top of the table is a genuine rarity.
The tackle box and combos
- Your tackle box holds what you own —rods, reels, lures and bait— and from there you build COMBOS: a combo is a rod, a reel and ONE rig (lure or bait), with a name. What goes in the water is a combo. Shortcut: in Items, “Mount” puts that piece on the combo in use without opening the editor.
- The spot decides which species bite; you choose what to try them with. Each lure can favour some species —you see it in green in the box and on its card—, so bringing the right one helps.
- The worm is bait, but it can also be mounted at lure spots: there it sinks and stays still like real bait, which is how you land the carp. You mount it from the box, in a combo.
- You can switch combos mid-session, between casts, except with a fish on — like switching rods in the boat. You can keep up to six combos.
AFD coins, lures and shop
Fishing pays. Every session the server verifies leaves you AFD coins, and with them you change lure, line, rod and reel.
- Each catch pays by its size: 1 small, 2 medium, 5 big, 12 very big and 40 a record.
- On top of that: 5 the first time you catch a species, 5 for beating your own best of that species, and 60 for unlocking a new destination.
- Only verified sessions count, and only the fish you landed. No account, no wallet: to earn AFD you must sign in with Google.
- Almost everything you buy is cosmetic and gives no advantage: line, rod and reel colours, the lures and the bait. If any of them had an effect —making a species more likely— its card says so in green. The worm works on both sides: at live-bait spots it goes instead of the baitfish, and at lure spots it can be mounted too — which is how you really land a carp. You put it on and take it off from the tackle box.
- Lures and bait get used up. Only while fighting: when a fish cuts your line, snaps it or tangles you in the structure, the rig stays in the river. Reeling in with no fish never costs you a lure. Bait also uses up one per session. And a fish spitting the hook costs you NOTHING: the lure comes back.
- That is why they are sold singly and in packs, and the pack is cheaper. The tackle box shows how many of each you have left. You can never be left unable to fish: the silver minnow and the live baitfish never run out, and if what you had mounted runs out, your combo falls back to them on its own.
- A premium lure never gets used up. It costs a good deal more, and that is the deal: you pay once and never replace it. Its card says so.
- Tap a lure picture and its card opens: the big picture, what it is and how it works, which species it is recommended for, how many fish you have caught with it, how many the whole game has, and the link to the shop that sells the real one.
- Bought a real lure that came with a code? At the bottom of the shop, Got a code? redeems it for its lure in the game. Each code works once; if you already own that lure it is not used up and you can give it away.
- The real lures takes you to the shop where they are sold, outside the game. What you buy here you buy with AFD: the link is an «it also exists».
- AFD packs. In the Android app, the shop sells AFD packs through Google Play (500, 1,500 and 4,000). It is the only thing in the shop paid with money: dollars buy more AFD, not different items. Nothing is reserved for payers —everything in the shop can be earned by fishing— and a lure that makes a species more likely says so on its card, whether you bought it or earned it. Bought AFD are counted apart from earned ones.
- The weekly podiums and the reward for inviting a friend are on the way: they will pay 100, 60 and 35 to the top three of each spot when the week closes, and 80 when someone you invited lands their first catch.
Rivers are earned
- There are two categories, Reservoirs and Rivers, and each has its own chain of destinations. Within a category they unlock in order: to open the next one you must catch every species that bite in the previous river —the open ones; run species are not needed for this— at least once. The first of each category is open from the start. Each river’s card (the i) is your album: it shows what you caught, what is missing and where it bites.
- In rivers with two spots, the second one is earned too: catch all but one of the species that bite at the first spot and the bait spot opens, where the big ones wait. And the rig decides: some fish only take live bait and others only chase the lure, so each river’s card tells you which spot each one bites at.
- What you have unlocked on your device never locks again, even if what swims there changes later. On another device, signing in lets your logbook open what you already caught.
- The rig matters. Some fish only take bait (the carp, for one) and others only chase a lure. The fish card says so with a chip —"Only with jumping worm · shop, 1 AFD", "Lure only", "Better with…"— and so does the what-you-are-missing note. The worm is not in the starter kit: you buy it in the shop and mount it from the tackle box.
- The runs. Some species do not bite from day one: they arrive in runs, and a run belongs to the whole game, not to one river. Run 1 opens when you have every open species of Bajos, Andinos Magdalena/Cauca, Orinoquía and Guayabero; Run 2 when you complete Run 1; and so on to the last one, the giants. A single run can open fish in several spots at once: it is the same batch seen from each river. Note: the newer destinations, like Tierras Bajas, also have run fish, but they are not earned by fishing there: they open with this same game-wide count. So they may take a while, and it is fine to keep moving along the route meanwhile. Exactly what you are missing for the next one: the banner at the top of the home screen says so, and tapping it lists every species, river by river, with a tick on the ones you already have. A purchased pass opens the DESTINATION, not its runs: those are still earned by fishing. In the river album, a fish that is not biting yet shows a lock and says which run it belongs to and where that run opens; the river note also says which species, and where, open your next run. Tap it and it unfolds what you are missing, species by species, ticking off the ones you already landed. When a run opens the game celebrates it and tells you which fish start biting. For a session to count, start it online.
- What the spot card counts. “✓ 11 species” or “species 3/6” are the species within your reach: the ones biting at your bite level plus the ones you already landed. Those that need a bite level you do not have yet are listed apart, as “1 to unlock”; tap the spot’s i to see which they are and what level they need. Once you have them all, bite levels included, the card turns gold: “★ All unlocked”.
- The Amazon Lagoon is the last destination of the Rivers and is earned with every species of the previous rivers in its chain, runs included. The arapaima rules there, up to 440 lb.
- The destination pass. In the Android app, a locked river can also be opened with a pass bought on Google Play (on the river card and in the shop, "Passes and coins"). The pass opens the river and nothing else: the second spot is earned by fishing as always, runs are untouched, and the "Explorer" medal, the AFD for unlocking a destination and the milestone card still belong to whoever earns it with their collection; if you paid, you can still earn it later. The Amazon Lagoon is not for sale: it is earned with everything. The all-destinations pass opens every destination you are missing at once, and the shop tells you which; with one or two left, buying them one by one is cheaper. On the web and on iPhone, for now, only the fishing path.
- A completed river never closes: come back any time to beat your records — the heaviest of each species is kept under your name.
The leaderboard
- Every spot has its own board, with two columns that compete separately: the session (total pounds released across your 15 casts) and the biggest fish.
- There is no overall board: you compete spot against spot, which is the fair way — a reservoir is not a rapid. The species book does gather everyone and keeps the record for each fish, with its holder. Search by name or filter by river; the ones nobody has landed yet show at the end, greyed out.
- There is a board for this week (closes Sundays at 7:00 PM Colombia time, Monday 00:00 UTC: every week is a fresh race; the board says how long is left) and an all-time board that never resets. Only your BEST mark is kept: replaying never adds up, it only improves.
- You need to sign in with Google to compete. Every session is VERIFIED on the server by replaying it move by move: leaderboard scores are real, not self-reported.
- Besides session and biggest fish there are Count (who landed the most of one species in a single session), Species (the record for each fish) and Clubs.
- Every row has a Challenge button and, if that person is fishing right now, a green dot.
- Short on time? "End session" (in the pause menu) closes right there and whatever you already released still counts.
- No signal? The session is saved on the device and uploads itself once you are back online. Nothing is lost.
- App closed or phone died mid-session? What you already caught is saved and uploads itself the next time you open the game, as a cut-short session: the home screen tells you, and says when it was verified. Only uninstalling the app erases it.
Your medals
- Achievements recognise what you have done —your first fish, the species you collect, the spots you open, the days in a row you fish, the waves you open, the challenges you win, what you leave your club, the pounds you release, your records— in four tiers (and a fifth, Legend, in the longest families): beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert.
- Every new medal pays AFD, and the server counts them from your verified sessions: there is no way to earn them without fishing them. They are in Your account → Your achievements.
Clubs
- Found your own or find one and ask to join; you can also get in through an admin’s invitation or the link the club shares. A club holds up to 20 members and 2 admins.
- You belong to one club at a time. Whoever leaves waits 3 days before joining another: that way nobody hops clubs to score wherever suits them.
- On the club leaderboard, the best sessions of the 5 best members count, not everyone’s: the club that fishes better wins, not the one with more people. How many species records the club holds counts too. Two different numbers, worth telling apart: the TOTAL (the club board) adds up all your sessions —every one counts, and the weekly total resets on Monday—; your BEST SESSION is your one-day record and only moves when you beat yourself. In a tournament or a challenge it is always the best session, or your biggest fish, depending on what is at stake: there, fishing more does not raise your mark, it raises your chances of landing the big one.
- Rival clubs can be inspected: tap a club on the club leaderboard, on an angler’s club label or on a challenge card to see its profile: members, board and records. Without a club you can ask to join from there; with one, you challenge it if you run yours, or any of its members.
- The club chest: every fish a member releases drops 1 AFD in the club, and every medal they earn one more. That coin is minted apart —nobody loses anything— and it pays the club’s challenge entries.
Challenges
- Challenge another angler to the best session, to the biggest fish of a species or to any species at the spot, for 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days. Each puts in the same —50, 100, 250 AFD— and the winner takes the whole pot.
- You can only challenge on a species that you have both unlocked: the ones you have not opened yet are not offered, and if they do not have it we tell you when you send it. A challenge nobody can win would keep both entries until it expires. To measure up without that, «any species at the spot» always works: each of you fishes whatever you have.
- It is asynchronous: nobody has to be online at the same time. The clock starts when the other accepts, and they have 48 hours to answer; otherwise the challenge dies on its own and your entry comes back.
- Once accepted, it is on: Go fishing (or Keep fishing, once you have a mark) takes you straight to the spot.
- Your mark is your BEST session or your BEST fish, not the sum of them all. That is why the challenge card does not say “you need so many more pounds” but the mark you have to beat: who is ahead and by how much, when each set theirs, and how much time is left. Matching it is a tie, and a tie refunds the entries. If only one fishes, that one wins.
- At the top of the challenges sheet is your record: how many you played, won, lost or tied, and what they left you. Cards are folded; tap one to see the details.
- When a session ends, the summary tells you what it did to each challenge: whether your mark went up and where that leaves you, or why it did not count.
- When you land a fish, the card tells you if it is your best of that species or if you have just taken the game record from someone.
- You can have 5 challenges with your entry in at once; as soon as one runs out of time its slot frees up, even while the server is still working out the result. One nobody has answered can be withdrawn from Waiting for an answer, and the entry comes back right away.
- Club against club: an admin sends them and the entry comes out of the chest. Every member fishes, but each club only counts as many marks as the smaller club has members — six against twenty is six against six. The pot goes back whole to the winning club’s chest. The card tells you whether your mark is among those that count and what you would need to turn it around on your own.
- For a session to count in a challenge you have to start it online: when you enter the spot, the server registers the session in your challenge before you start (a second, and it confirms it as you begin). That is how we know it was fished during the challenge and not before. With no signal, the game lets you try again, go back and wait, or fish without the challenge. If the server takes more than two seconds you can also skip the wait and fish without the challenge; and if its answer arrives before your first cast, the session is registered anyway.
Tournaments
- A tournament is a challenge open to everyone: A Fishing Day announces them, you enter with AFD before it starts, fish within the window and the pot is split by place among the top places (by default half to first, 30% to second and 20% to third; each tournament says its own). The criterion is the same as in challenges: the best session, the biggest fish of a species or the biggest at the spot.
- You can only enter if you have already unlocked the tournament spot and the species bite. You need not have caught it: it has to be biting for you already. Entries close when the tournament starts and until then you can withdraw with your entry back. You can be in 3 tournaments at once and you play as many sessions as you like while it runs: the best one counts. A tournament may come with its own daily session cap, and then it says so on its card.
- In the Tournaments sheet you can see, without tapping anything, who has entered and how the table stands: first the anglers with a mark, by place, and below them the ones who have not scored yet. Each place shows what it would take home in AFD if the tournament closed right then, and your own row is highlighted and scrolls itself into view.
- Every tournament session must be started with signal: the server registers it before you cast, just like in challenges. And it must be finished and sent before closing time: whatever reaches the server after the final whistle does not count, even if the session started inside the window; if the tournament closes in under 60 minutes, the game reminds you while fishing and in the pause menu. Your BEST mark counts, not the sum. The table is public and moves live; when it ends, the server closes, pays by itself and tells you in the bell. If nobody scored, every entry goes back to its owner.
- When a tournament has entries open, the home screen announces it with a button to enter; "Not now" hides it for that tournament. In the app, with alerts on in Settings, the server sends you a notification when you are challenged, when your tournament starts or ends, when you are overtaken on the podium, when someone takes a record from you and, at 6:30 pm, if you have unanswered challenges or days without fishing.
The bell and who is fishing
- The bell in the top bar gathers everything for you: club invitations and requests, and every step of your challenges — you were challenged, they accepted, they did not answer, it ended. You answer right from there.
- If you have the app, the game alerts you while you are away : a challenge waiting for your answer or about to end, unanswered items in the bell, the species you are missing, and now and then that the fish are biting. One a day at most and never at night; opening the game clears them all. Turn it off in Settings.
- If you leave the game with something unread in the bell, we nudge you twenty minutes later so it does not sit there. That is the only one that may ring at night, and only because you just closed the game yourself.
- The green dot appears next to whoever has the game open (seen in the last 5 minutes), on the leaderboard, in your club and when you look for someone to challenge. For everyone else you see how long since they fished.
Sharing and your records
- When you land a fish, the Share button builds a card with its illustration, weight and place, ready for WhatsApp, Instagram or wherever you like.
- From the leaderboard you can share your rank or invite a friend to play.
- Your personal records keep your best of each species, with weight, place and date. They are in Your account → Personal records, and from there you can share each record or all of them in a single image.
- The recognition plaques go to whoever landed the first of each species in the game, whatever its size: one plaque per species, with their name, the date and the weight, for good. The first whose session the server verifies wins, not the phone's clock. It pays 40 AFD if the species bites from day one and 120 AFD if it arrives with a run. Administrator accounts do not compete. The full list is on the leaderboard under "Recognition plaques"; when you land a fish whose plaque is still open, the catch card tells you.
Frequently asked questions
- What do I fish each species with? The spot decides which species bite and you choose what to try them with: a combo is a rod, a reel and ONE piece of tackle (lure or bait). In Species, each fish card says what it bites on, and in the tackle box its favourite lure shows in green. The worm works on both sides and is the only bait you can mount at a lure spot: that is how you land a carp. Switch combos between casts, never with a fish on.
- How do I earn AFD? By fishing, signed in with Google. Each catch in a verified session pays by its size, from 1 for a small one to 40 for a record; plus extras: 5 the first of a species, 5 for beating your own best and 60 for unlocking a destination. Also by winning challenges: the winner takes the pot. With your AFD you buy lures, bait, rods, reels and colours in the shop. Weekly podiums and the reward for inviting a friend are on the way.
- How do challenges work? You challenge another angler (or your club challenges another club) to the best session, the biggest fish of a species or any species at the spot, for 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days. Each puts in the same entry (50, 100, 250 AFD) and the winner takes the pot; a tie refunds the entries. The other has 48 hours to accept and the clock starts when they do. Your BEST mark counts, not the sum. For a session to count you must start it with signal: the server registers it in the challenge before you begin. The full detail is in the «Challenges» section.
- When does the weekly board close? Sundays at 7:00 PM Colombia time. The server counts weeks in universal time (UTC), where that is Monday 00:00, so every country closes at the same instant. The «This week» board says how long is left. The week is set by the time the server verifies your session, not the time you fished it: if you finish Sunday evening without signal and the session leaves the outbox on Monday, it counts for the new week.
- I landed a huge fish and it is not on the board. The board is built only from verified sessions, and verifying takes seconds when there is signal. If you opened the board from the share card, right as you landed it, your session had not arrived yet. Open the board again: there it is.
- The app closed (or my phone died) mid-session. When you open the game again the session is rescued and sent as a cut-short session: what you caught counts, and the home screen tells you when it was verified. The only thing that erases it is uninstalling the app.
- I have no signal. Do I lose the session? No. It is kept in the phone outbox and goes out on its own when signal returns, in order. Only challenges need signal when the session starts, to register it; if there is none, the game tells you and you can fish without the challenge.
- A species will not bite no matter how hard I try. Open its card in Species: the tackle chip says what it bites on and where to get it (for example «Only with jumping worm · shop, 1 AFD»). And some only bite once your bite level in that river has gone up.
